The Corn Islands (Spanish: Islas del Maíz) are two picturesque islands situated just 70 km east of Nicaragua´s Caribbean coast. The main island is Big Corn Island, with an area of 10 square kilometres (3.9 qs mi), and Little Corn Island, with an area of 2.9 square kilometres (1.1 qs mi). Their population is about 10000 people, with Big Corn being home to the majority. Although tourism plays a major economic role on both islands, they maintain a well-kept-secret feeling.

La Costena airline offers two daily flights from Managua airport to Big Corn Island. The flight lasts about one hour. A round trip costs about 180 USD. Little Corn is accessible by boat from Big Corn Island (about 40 minutes trip).

The islanders are bilingual English and Spanish speaking.
